Jenny Lee Maas has always been a fan of music and sound, in 2019 she started Zen Fuzz. Maas plays guitar, synth, sings & writes.

Music history of Jenny Lee:

Jenny Lee Maas has always been a fan of music and sound. She has always listened to a wide scope of music as well, both recorded and live concerts / performances. When she was young she made her Barbies costumes and sing operas, but she was extremely shy. So for years she struggled to feel comfortable sharing her voice. In high school she got her first guitar and began playing, taking some lessons and learning songs that she liked through tabs and chord charts from the internet. Many of her covers on YouTube came from those songs that she printed out then, it was sort of a way for her to honor her younger self by finishing what she was trying to do then and helping her move forward into now. In high school she tried to join bands but struggled because someone else always wanted to be the singer, and she, being extremely shy never got a turn to even be heard, so she was dissatisfied with herself for not knowing how to take up space and others because they never gave her space. So for years she played mostly alone, and occasionally with people who gave her some room.

In college she began making soundtracks for her performance art films, while occasionally playing background guitar in a folk band and making odd instruments (see Xylistone). She also ran a series of art & music benefit shows that included; Rock, Punk, Folk, Classical & Jazz music, with donations going to Pedals For Progress and the American Cancer Society.

After college she continued exploring sound by working on the Psyche’s Lullaby film series, performing at live zen yoga sound baths & making soundtracks for her runway shows. These tracks were collaborations. She wanted to do more but struggled to find the time and still had some stage fright, a fear worth facing.

In 2019 she started Zen Fuzz. The name was inspired by her old vintage instruments, they all had some static issues, everything had a bit of a fuzz, but whereas others saw it as a bad thing, Maas heard beats within those distortions that informed her direction… It’s all a matter of perception! During the pandemic she slowed her fashion and focused on music, she started learning how to record and produce.

Then for a year she released an acoustic cover a week, this gave her a way to practice structured songs from start to finish and share it with the world. It also helped her understand the recording and processing techniques. Maas has been writing for years but never had a focused way to organize and emphasize these ideas until this moment. So while releasing the covers she started recording her first full length album, Phenomenology. As the wold opened again she started attending jams and open mics to get comfortable at improvising & performing. In July of 2025 she started performing Phenomenology with her first full show in Philadelphia. She is currently booking more shows & hopes to have an official tour soon, so stay tuned!

This gallery is an overview of Jenny Lee Maas's sculpture works.

Psyche's Lullaby is an ongoing film project that started in 2010.   Procession at Dawn is a part of the bigger whole.  The project is a series of short films that are a continuous journey.  Much of the imagery comes from dreams.  It is a symbolic interpretation of one woman's reality.
Once all the shorts are filmed [20 are expected] the last step is to film a character who narrates and unites all of these shorts.  This project has to do with loss, trauma, fear, dreams, guidance, intuition and overcoming.
I want to work in this format because it allows me to film piece by piece, and not necessarily in order, but instead by what is possible at the time of filming.  Performance art is something I have experimented with and it informs my approach with each short; I write a performance score outline and allow participants to improvise.  This allows a more organic process, and often yields to more discoveries.  I also enjoy film because of all the components; costumes, props, music, choreography, cinematography and performance.  It really allows me to play with all mediums. 
So far we have screened the new episodes at our release party and film festivals.  The online release for the next episodes is TBD as we are submitting to more film festivals.

Her project Psyche's Lullaby is a series of short films that were originally performed as a live show.  Maas has performed in them both live and on film.  She writes, directs, and makes props and costumes for her own series as well as assisting other artists / projects.

This gallery highlights public art projects & large scale works that Maas has worked on. Her hand in each piece varies but includes fabrication and installation. On occasion, Maas worked as a teacher with community members that help create parts of the works. Many of her projects are with Mural Arts Philadelphia with others by The Art Museum and Percent for Art. Artist leads listed on final project images.
